Bryan in Austria

'SIXTY-NINE' - BRYAN ADAMS FANCLUB FROM HOLLAND

    Vienna, April 30, 1997 (Wednesday)

After a few troubles we finally saw the hall which the concert
had to take place in. In front of it there were about 20 or 30
people and nowhere any poster or something that would remind
Bryan. Only a few trucks for equipment, buses and music (sound
check) that was sounding from the inside of the hall assured us
of being at the right place. The long hours of waiting started.

At 7 p.m they let us in. When a security woman at the door saw
our baggage she stiffened...and said to to go in. It was great.
We smuggled my camera and Sharka's dictaphone without any
problems while others had to submit to a personal searching. We
"captured" a place in the 3rd row and were impatiently awaiting
the beginning of the show.

At 8.15 p.m.Bryan and the guys finally came. The concert
started. They all looked great. Bryan was wearing a blue jeans
and a beige T-shirt. They started with "The only thing that
looks good on me is you". About the middle of the song
beautiful (?!) models appeared on the stage suddenly.
Well...maybe Bryan thought it's funny but to me and Sharka
found it a little bit strange for the rock concert.

The second song was "Do to you". I love Bryan's playing
harmonica. In the end of "I can't stop this thing we started"
Bryan played and played and repeated round about "I can't stop,
I can't stop." It was funny.
About 1 meter far from me there was standing a girl who was
holding a piece of paper on which was written "Keith". But
Keith overlooked the girl somehow. So at the moment Bryan drew
Keith's attention to the girl and invited her on the stage to
greet Keith. She was so happy!

Bryan started to play "Touch the hand" and wanted us to raise
our hands. It was the right moment for me. I showed my hand
made Czech flag to him (Why hand-made?) It's simple. I didn't
manage to find s a small Czech flag in our shops! Shame! So I
drew it on own my own.) I was looking at Bryan and waiting if
he noticed it. In the end I missed it. Only after the show
Sharka told me: "Bryan was great as he looked at your flag,
smiled ans showed 'OK'." Thank you very much Bryan!

At one moment Bryan asked us to help him. He wanted us to
scream "Hey Elvis" when the bandstop to play. We tried it a few
times until Bryan was satisfied with our screaming. We awaited
Bryan started to play "Hey Elvis" but suddenly the lights when
turned off. Only a white light was shining on Bryan, he opened
his arms, looked in the light and started to talk to Elvis! At
the first moment I thought that somebody masked like Elvis
would come because on the ticket there was written Bryan Adams
+ guest. I was wrong. Nobody came. But I am sure of one thing.
I'm sure Bryan saw Elvis at that moment! Finally the lights
turned on again, the guys started to play the song and we
screamed "Hey Elvis" when Bry signed to us.

In the middle of "Hey Elvis" me and Sharka shifted to the B-
stage. You can't imagine how we were happy when we met there
Agi her sister Eszter and their Hungarian friends. Our trouble
with lodging was solved. We enjoyed "the B-stage session". And
when the guys started to play "She's only happy when she's
dancing", it was the right time for Bryan's guest. The first
"She" who appeared on the small stage was Cecile, Bryan's
girlfriend! Really an unexpected surprise! After a few seconds
girls strated to climb up on the stage. We also wanted to climb
up there but we didn't manage it because the unpleasant
security man inhibited us from it. Nevertheless we had a great
time!

After returning back on the mainstage Bry started to find a
guitar player, a bass-guitar player, a drummer and a singer. He
put together a new band. They played "Summer of '69", of
course. And I can say they played very well. When they stopped
playing, Bryan said:" Ladies and gentlemen, this is the future
of Austria." I'm sure the kids had to be absolutely happy at
that moment.

At 11 p.m. the gig was over. I don't remember exactly the whole
set list but Bryan and the guys played these songs: "The only
thing that looks good on me is you", "Do to you", "Let's make a
night to remember", "18 til I die", "Star", "I'll always be
right there", "It ain't a party if you can't come around", "I
think about you", "Have you ever really loved a woman", "Cuts
like a knife", "Touch the hand", "There will never be another
tonight" (here Bryan made a mistake and had to start again),
"Hey Elvis", "Summer of '69", "Somebody" and "Kids wanna rock"
B-stage:"You gotta live for yourself", "Seven nights to rock",
"Wild thing", "I wanna be your underwear", "Please forgive me",
and "She's only happy when she's dancing".

Now I must confess that immediately after finishing of the
concert I was a little bit disappointed. I don't know why. But
I didn't feel the same feelings like after the two concerts
that I saw in the summer. I think it was caused by the troubles
we had with our lodging and by one big problem that I left
Prague. I couldn't get free enough and enjoy the show
completely. But the second day after a few hours of sleeping I
finally got the right feeling. When I was sitting in the train
back to Prague, listening to my walkman, looking out of the
train window at the blossoming trees and the sun, thinking
about the gig, I felt absolutely happy. I felt I got a new
energy and power for my future life. Bryan proved me again that
it's worth living in spite of all troubles life. And my only
wish at that moment was Bryan to come to Prague to see him
again.
